By now, most of us know that Employee Value Proposition (EVP) -- things like compensation and benefits, perks and culture -- matter to candidates who are considering your company. Recruiters, HR managers and company leaders have increasingly bought into the notion that they should not only know what their EVP is, but that it should be shared in a strategic way with prospective talent. Hello, employer branding!
Certainly a huge leap in the right direction toward improving how candidates experience your hiring process, and forging better cultural matches.
But what about job-specific value propositions (JVP)? I’d wager that not all employees in your company were attracted by the same factors. In fact, their particular role at your company will impact their experience more than compensation, benefits, perks and culture.
So how might we highlight the value propositions of particular roles we are hiring for? Show a behind-the-scenes look at what a day in the life of that particular role looks like. The easiest way to do this isn’t to write super sexy job descriptions, it’s to highlight what the work experience is.
Video is a tangible, authentic way to do just that. Recruiting videos do not have to be fancy. Take 60-90 seconds to talk to a colleague in the targeted role on camera, then take another 60 seconds to pan around their work space while they’re working. Here are some tips.
Not at all discounting Employer Branding, I’m suggesting we take it a step further. Show candidates what they get out of doing a particular job at your company, and you will get applicants who want to work in that role at your company.
