Millions of people travel around the world to go to museums every year to experience other cultures and the past. We think experiential learning is so important, we built it into our education system (anyone go to DC in 8th grade?!), our past times and our adventures. To touch and experience the world at a different time, in a different place. Visitors follow elaborate stories the museum’s curator has built almost like a novel. Carefully placed vignettes telling the shortest versions of stories behind the artifacts.
Downstairs in the museum book stores, they sell novels to tell the rest of the stories behind those 4 sentence plaques. To make money too, of course. But the bigger reason is that they want to entice you to get invested in the history, too. The last time I was at a museum, I noticed one large, coffee table book with pictures of every artifact in the museum with the placard printed right there. I couldn’t help but think “why would someone come to the museum if they could just look at all of this from the comfort of their couch?”
I know what you’re thinking. “It’s just not the same,” right? I agree completely. People go to museums for that special experience. They go there because reading a book just isn’t enough. It’s not the same as seeing, touching, feeling. Think about the Holocaust Museum. It’s so significant because they’ve taken immersion and experience to a new level, embedding artifacts into your guided experience. And as a result, you feel something.
As storytellers and ethnographers, we started thinking about that quality and the feeling museums inspire. We wanted to pursue a method of videography that could translate the feeling of experience (not just being there) and immerse it into how candidates are brought into companies. We do a lot of that with our video but the hustle never stops. We wanted the next thing.
And we’re bringing it to you starting today with Job Preview 360. Job Preview 360 gives candidates the ability to follow their own curiosities. To look around and see the rich details that matter to them. Why is that so significant? Because for a true match between a company and candidate, that candidate needs to know where they fit - not just where you see them fitting.
